Mission Statement

InterAct Clevelandà ¢à  à  s partner PRYME Youth Media is an out-of-school, media based youth program. It recruits and trains youth successfully to use creative writing, electronic print, broadcast and Internet based media to share their points of view on critical community issues. It emphasizes the centrality of written and spoken work in all forms of future employment for it youth members. In addition it offer them a variety of opportunities to prepare for future employment.

Description

PRYME youth are assisted by trained media mentors to use a medium that they or their group leader select to share and through which the youth participants are assisted to transform their emotional responses from anti-social to pro-social behaviors. Through these learned skills they will address social issues and give them a youth respective in their presentation. The transformation that follows is real and tangible. All of this happens because it is based on tested lesson plans developed by project leaders. The plans assist student participants to understand their use of electronic media, music, visual art and the written and spoken word. Through their creativity and the use of the tools the youth will be helped to diffuse and transform their anger and perceived helplessness. In addition, the youth develop relationships with caring adult mentors from the fields in which they work. Each group of youth meets regularly in one of several sites around the metropolitan Cleveland area. Each site is designated as a PRYME Youth Media Bureau (as described above) and is managed by a à ¢à  à  Bureau Chiefà ¢à  à  who is supervised by the Project Director.
