Mission Statement

Founded upon the humanitarian work of Maurice Pate, who founded UNICEF, and based on the spiritual tradition of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Godstowâ  s mission is to preserve the legacy of service as exemplified by Mr. Pate and advance the greater understanding of Tibetan Buddhism.

Description

Located on 100 acres of property in Redding, CT. and surrounded by woods, rolling meadows, ponds, and fields, Godstow Retreat Center offers a serene, natural environment for retreat and contemplation. Godstow Retreat Center comprises a portion of the original estate of John Read, after whom the town of Redding took its name, and was the former residence of Martha and Maurice Pate, two visionaries dedicated to the cause of world peace. Maurice Pate was the founder of UNICEF, the United Nationâ  s Children's Fund, and Martha Lucas Pate was a scholar of religion and philosophy, and former university president. Godstow is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
