Mission Statement

The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center in affiliation with the Smithsonian Institution houses both the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania and the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum. The Society, a nonprofit cultural institution, has continuously served Pittsburgh since 1879, by collecting, preserving and interpreting the history of Western Pennsylvania through publications, exhibits, lectures, and programs, It operates a museum on local and national hisory as well as Western Pennsylvania sports, maintains a special collections library and archives; publishes a quarterly magazine, newsletters and books about regional history; and provides educational programs, lectures, tours, materials, and technical assistance for diverse audiences of all ages.

Description

The Heinz History Center is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm. Over 25,000 school children visit us in the course of a year. All school tours are led by volunteer docents, who also do adult tours on request.
