Mission Statement

Building citizen-stewardship among diverse communities in support of wildlife and National Wildlife Refuges.

Description

Wildlife Stewards' purpose is to develop citizen protection and care for wildlife and their habitats through education, advocacy and volunteerism on or involving National Wildlife Refuges. We endeavor to bring more people to these special places through outreach and by building programs that promote citizen involvement as volunteers and advocates. We are active participants in the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, as the majority of the wetlands involved are on the Don Edwards SF Bay NWR. Wildlife Stewards is sponsor and codeveloper of the Refuge's Salt Pond Tour Docent Program launched in 2004. Formed in 2002, Wildlife Stewards is a partner to the seven NWRs of the San Francisco Bay Region, a sponsored project of Acterra and an affiliate of the National Wildlife Refuge Association. Our office is on the Don Edwards Refuge at the Alviso site.
