Description
Program Description PLTI is a 20-week adventure to reinforce parent involvement in the civic arena. PLTI integrates child development, leadership and a civic tool kit into its spiral curriculum. Parents attend a 20-week program. The application process is competitive. Family supports such as child care, meals and transportation are provided. Each graduating class, working with members of the Design Team, mentors the next class, creating a pyramid effect of community caring and a developing coalition of parents. Parents define the curriculum and participate in its evaluation and outcomes. The PLTI is a à  à · Civic leadership initiative à  à · Public public-private local community partnership à  à · Training ground in civics and democracy Parents are offered training built on interactive adult learning practices 1. A retreat to develop group and define mission through process and content analysis. 2. A10-week course on building a community of parent leaders. 3. A 10-week study developing a democracy tool kit within a community framework. 4. The completion of a community project based upon the studentà ¢à  à  s personal agenda. A statewide graduation follows where graduates receive certificates from the legislature. Graduates participate in an Alumni Program that offers support among parents for civic participation.
