Mission Statement

The mission of the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center (GMHC) is to champion the preservation of Gloucesterâ  s maritime industrial history and traditions, and to serve as a resource for the study of maritime history, ecology, and related vocational trades.

Description

Our site features the oldest continuously operating marine railway in the country, historic fishing vessels, a boatbuilding shop, diving exhibit, and Sea Pocket Lab, an outdoor aquarium that houses the MIT Sea Grant Finfish Hatchery. We offer visitors the best access to Gloucester's historic working wtaerfront. Our education and field trip programs serve grades K-12. We offer marine science internships, boatbuilding classes for youth and adults, and dory and gig rowing for youth and adult groups.
