Description

We are a nonprofit organization offering performances of the world's most enduring and beautiful music played by its most acclaimed virtuosos. We'll bring you exquisite music and treat your senses to the unmatched sound of a Stradivarius violin, a Brahms' Quintet or a Tchaikovsky love song.

Chamber music is the most intimate and exciting of the classical music forms. Hear how only a handful of artists can paint a canvass of sound that can completely fill the auditorium or hush to the quietness of a falling leaf.

Chamber Music International (CMI) was founded as the Richardson Chamber Music Society in 1986 and renamed to Chamber Music International in 1996 to reflect the international diversity of the artists and their performances. In the 23 years since, CMI has presented trios, quartets, quintets, sextets, septets, and octets performing music from the Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, and Modern eras, performed by world-renowned soloists, recording artists and competition gold medallists from all parts of the globe. This includes artists who make their homes in the Richardson, Dallas, Fort Worth and Denton areas. The artists who perform with CMI come from over 13 countries and represent a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds.

CMI performances emphasize quality music, regardless of race, gender, or ethnic heritage.

In the 2009-2010 Series, CMI Artistic Director, Philip Lewis brings together world-class musicians such as: Cho-Liang Lin (one of the finest virtuoso violinists in the world), Jon Nakamatsu (1997 Van Cliburn Gold Medallist), Nathaniel Rosen (Tchaikovsky International Gold Medallist), Nai-Yuan Hu (1985 Queen Elizabeth Competition First Prize winner), and 20 other widely celebrated and highly acclaimed artists.

Ensembles of these celebrated musicians create unique performances experienced nowhere else in the world. Mr. Lewis introduces each concert with a discussion of the cultural and historical background of the music the audiences are about to hear. This type of musical presentation is totally unique to the greater Southwest.

CMI concerts in Richardson and Dallas draw listeners from Richardson, Dallas, Plano, Garland, Denton, Fort Worth and the Mid Cities. By bringing musicians of the highest artistic caliber to our area, CMI sets the standard for chamber music in the Metroplex and gives audiences the benchmark to judge other chamber music performances.

CMI sponsers a Chamber Music Performance Competition for High School and College age students and conducts youth focused activites to expose and educate youth to Chamber Music.
