To promote and develop greater understanding of other cultures, foster respect of self and others, and provide leadership skills, and To protect and appreciate all wilderness through outdoor exploration, education, sharing and spiritual growth.
Through the Inner City Outings program, volunteers provide outdoor experiences to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity. Most of the participants are urban youth. The goal of the Atlanta ICO program is to help these young people discover the beauty of wild places, to foster an appreciation for nature, and to help them acquire the necessary skills to enjoy these places safely. Through active involvement with nature, the program increases participant's environmental awareness, interpersonal skills and self esteem.
