Learn more about nonprofit management, meet SHADOW’s volunteer corps, and help us take our online presence to the next level! Help label photos, work on archiving part of SHADOW's 25 years of history, or work on gathering resources for grants, or coordinate curriculum resources! We need your help organizing the office so we can be better Habitat Helpers! Learn marketable skills and use industry standard programs! Develop your knowledge of Salesforce, Social Media marketing, WordPress, and the Microsoft suite in a fun and rewarding work environment. Become a Board Member for a nature preserve! SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to acquire and restore critical lands to permanently protect and steward dwindling wildlife habitat while engaging and educating all. SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to habitat preservation, community environmental education, and land stewardship in South King County. SHADOW has openings for Board Members with financial, accounting, law, resource management, communications, or nonprofit fundraising expertise. SHADOW’S Board governs the organization and is responsible for executing its mission. The Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs, and oversees the Executive Director, who is responsible for day-to-day management of the organization. Terms are for three years and can be renewed with the consent of the Board. Time Commitment: 4 - 8 hrs./month. Ideal candidates will: Have a passion for the preservation of open space and wildlife habitat. Understand & be able to communicate the benefits that SHADOW’s protected lands provide to the local community, wildlife, and climate. Help develop new fundraising strategies and identify opportunities that will advance our mission and vision. Key responsibilities may include: Advance and actively promote SHADOW’s mission and vision, including contributing thoughtful ideas and expertise. Represent the organization and help build SHADOW’s community support. Be informed about SHADOW’s mission, services, policies, staffing needs and programs. Ensure effective organizational planning. Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies and the Fiduciary Commitment. Actively participate in all board activities. Including but not limited to: Participate in monthly board meetings (virtual or in person) Serve on a committee. Take on special assignments if necessary! Want to volunteer around beautiful scenery? SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is looking for volunteers to work outdoors as volunteer Restoration Assistants or Native Plant Garden Attendants. Restoration Assistants help remove invasive plants from the Nature Preserve, monitor restoration projects, and conduct trail maintenance. Native Plant Garden Attendants care for the plants in SHADOW's native plant garden and greenhouse, remove weeds from the garden, and mulch & gravel areas/walk ways We are looking for individuals who can commit to a regular schedule - weekly, bi-weekly, & monthly shifts available during mornings or afternoons. Facilite a live long love of learning about the environment at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve! Help Staff with School Field Trips and Community Classes, spending time outdoors educating youth! SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve seeks motivated individuals to join our team of volunteers to help as Environmental Educators and Naturalists. Educators/Naturalists will help lead youth during field trips and summer activities including STEM activities, nature art, and guided hikes around the Nature Preserve. We will provide training on curriculum activities, guided walks, and other components of our education program. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking experience teaching or experience in environmental education! Volunteer will be subject to a background check (free) and we will ask for a reference.
