Description
The Jefferson County Historical Society has operated a museum in the landmark Port Townsend City Hall building since 1951. In the Jefferson Museum of Art & History permanent and temporary exhibits tell the story of Jefferson County from the earliest native peoples to the present day. Historic and contemporary art works are featured in changing exhibits. The society also operates four other sites:
Research Center: The archives of JCHS are available to scholars, students, genealogists, local governments, the media, and others at the Research Center.
Rothschild House: The Rothschild House State Park is managed JCHS. This 1868 historic house museum provides a look at the life of the Rothschild family and the history of early Port Townsend daily life.
Commanding Officer's Quarters: The historical society also manages Fort Worden's historic house museum at the head of Officer's Row.
Olympic Peninsula Gateway Visitor Center: JCHS manages the visitor center for Jefferson County and has added museum exhibits indoors and outside.
