Founded in 1990, The Steppingstone Foundation is a non-profit organization that develops and implements programs which prepare under-served students for educational opportunities that lead to college. Based on the premise that, regardless of circumstance, children can achieve at high levels academically with effective preparation and support, Steppingstone programs emphasize rigorous standards and achieve meaningful results.
The mission of the Support Services department is to offer guidance and resources to Scholars throughout middle and high school. The goal is to support Scholars as they transition into their new school environment and prepare for admission to and success in college. The Support Services department provides tutoring, counseling, and activities designed to build the Scholars’ self-confidence and help them thrive in their new school environments. Support Services also host academic workshops and workshops on applying for financial aid, the college admission process, and finding summer opportunities. Other activities are organized for the Scholars, such as community service projects and visits to museums, plays, movies, and sports events.
Once the Scholars have started at their placement schools, the Support Services Advisors visit them regularly to make sure that the Scholar is making a smooth transition both academically and socially. If there are any issues or problems, members of the Support Services staff serve as liaisons between the school and parents to solve issues as they arise. Scholars know that if they experience any difficulties at all, they can contact their Steppingstone Advisor at any time. Support Services Advisors monitor each Scholar’s academic progress and arrange tutoring when necessary.
