This is singularly the 'most rewarding' volunteer participation I have ever been involved with in my life... In 1.5 hours, a surgeon can begin the correction of a cleft lip and palate anomaly providing a child and their entire family, IMMEDIATELY, with a better life.
Rotary members are expected to fund raise and obtain matching grants to support all or a portion of the cost of sending Medical and Non-Medical Teams with all equipment and supplies necessary to complete 50 - 120 Cleft Lip and Palate surgeries. The child would NEVER, otherwise, have an opportunity to receive . As a Non-Medical Rotary volunteer you travel all over the world donating your time in a medical setting. The Medical team consists of Plastic Surgeons, Speech Therapist, Orthodontist, OR Surgical Nurses, and at times a Geneticist accompanies the team.
Projects are organized in collaboration with local [in country] Rotary Clubs, medical facilities and surgeons. The project time frames run from 1 -2 weeks.
