Mission Statement

To Keep Shelby Beautiful by empowering individuals, organizations and the City of Shelby, through a community partnership, to take responsibility for enhancing the quality of life through beautification, education, reduction of litter, promotion of recycling, improvement of waste handling practices and natural resource conservation.

Description

An affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. In December 2003 the affiliate received the President's Circle award at the National Convention in Washington D.C. The Shelby Appearance Commission worked for several months with KAB trainers to assess the litter and solid waste situation and develop a board of directors and begin a local organization. Priorities are beautification, litter control, solid waste and curbside trash reduction, education about what can be done to improve our environment, and graffiti. Remember to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
