Mission Statement

Founded as a public-private partnership in 1993, the Midtown Community Court handles misdemeanor arrests made in the Times Square, Chelsea, and Clinton neighborhoods of New York City. Its mission is to respond constructively to quality of life, crimes such as prostitution, petit larceny, and illegal vending and to work to prevent further crime before it occurs. It accomplishes these goals by sentencing offenders to a set of graduated sanctions, including community restitution, social services, short-term and long-term drug treatment and, when appropriate, jail. The Court also offers social services (including HRA, GED classes, and job training) on-site on a voluntary basis

Description

On-site programs offer include a job training program for adults, a work readiness/GED program for youth, a conflict resolution program for community members and substance abuse counseling.
