Please help us to ensure a safe and clean area for our families to stay while their child is in the hospital. We are in need of volunteers in our housekeeping department who will sweep, mop, dust, organize kitchen and linen closets as well as freshen up the bathrooms and dining rooms. The volunteers will may clean or maintain individual families rooms after check out.

Ronald McDonald House Family Room A Place of Respite inside UNM Children's Hospital The Ronald McDonald House Family Room is located on the 6th Floor of the UNM Children's Hospital in the Child Life Center. The Family Room provides a "home away from home" within the hospital to families with ill or injured children receiving medical treatment at UNMH. This is a wonderful opportunity for college students who need some down time to study and give back at same time. Volunteers help with welcoming and registering families, maintaining supplies, and overseeing laundry and computer schedule. MAJOR OBJECTIVE UNMH Family Room volunteers will serve as a representative of RMHC-NM while lending comfort to families using the room. You will manage a respite space for family members providing direct care to their child on any pediatric floor in the hospital. QUALIFICATIONS Personable, patient, flexible and a good communicator. Resourceful and able to work independently. Volunteers must be 18 years or older Serves as an ambassador for the RMHC-NM, appropriately communicating the mission and purpose of the organization. Respect the privacy and the confidentiality of all guests and agency information. Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with all staff, families, donors and stakeholders Past experience with receptionist duties a plus RESPONSIBILITIES Greet families and hospital staff Register new families and provide a tour of the Family Room Answer the phone Keep front desk clean and free of clutter Stock food in kitchen Maintain laundry and computer sign in sheet Clean and organize the room Track visitors as they use the room Monitor laundry room VOLUNTEER RESTRICTIONS: No volunteer is to be involved in direct patient treatment or medical procedures. ORIENTATION/TRAINING All volunteers are required to attend UNM Hospital volunteer orientation, submit to UNMH background check and be issued a volunteer security badge. Volunteers will complete two shadow dates of 3 hours with a veteran volunteer prior to their first shift. Volunteers will be required to attend any training or meeting pertaining to their position during their time at the Family Room. TIME AND PLACE Monday - Friday shifts run: 9am-12pm, 1-3:30pm, 3:30-5:30pm Saturday and Sunday shifts run: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm Shift times vary and will be arranged with the Volunteer Programs Manager. Time and dates TBD based on the needs of the Family Room and volunteer. All volunteer service in this position will take place in the Ronald McDonald Family Room located at UNMH. COMMITMENT A six-month commitment is required to volunteer with this program unless otherwise arranged with the Volunteer Manager. The volunteer’s commitment time begins on the date of their first shift, not during shadowing. After the second shadow date, the volunteer and the Volunteer Manager will assess the placement and the commitment. Volunteer time will not exceed 15 hours per week. ON-THE-JOB-SUPERVISION This position will be supervised by the Volunteer Programs Manager with additional support by Child Life Staff at UNM Children’s Hospital. Guest Chef Volunteers bring and prepare the ingredients needed to supply a home cooked meal for 60+ guests staying at the House. You can cook the meal right in the House. The kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, bakeware, and cooking utensils. We also have a grill outside. While cooking inside the House is recommended, we still welcome outside donations from local restaurants.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of NM Caring for Families with Ill Children Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico offers great opportunities to volunteer. As we help in the healing process by keeping families together while their child receives medical treatment at a nearby hospital our volunteers help by making a vital difference in the lives of the many people we serve by volunteering at the House, the Ronald McDonald Family Room and at special events. At the Ronald McDonald House, volunteers play a crucial part of the day-to-day activities of the House, whether you are helping answering phones or setting up a room for an incoming family or helping keep the House clean and in order - each gives comfort to those who need it most and gives people hope knowing that people care. MAJOR OBJECTIVE Guest Services Desk Receptionist volunteers will work with the staff in the Guest Services Office to assist families and the public with any questions or concerns which may arise. Are required to attend a one-hour new volunteer orientation prior to their first shadowing shift. This orientation will consist of, but is not limited to, House rules and regulation, dress code, confidentiality requirements, and staff expectations. Will complete two shadow dates of 2 hours or more with a veteran volunteer or staff person prior to their first shift. Will be required to attend any training or meeting pertaining to their position during their time at the House TIME AND PLACE Monday - Friday shifts: 9am-12pm, 12-3pm, 3-6pm All shifts will be three hours long, unless otherwise arranged with the Volunteer Coordinator. Time and dates TBD based on the needs of the RMHC and volunteer. All volunteer service in this position will take place either at Yale Ronald McDonald House or Highlands Ronald McDonald House. COMMITMENT A three-month commitment is required to volunteer with this program unless otherwise arranged with the Volunteer Coordinator. The volunteer’s commitment time begins on the date of their first shift, not during shadowing. After the second shadow date, the volunteer will meet with the Volunteer Coordinator to confirm commitment and assess the placement. Volunteer time will not exceed 15 hours per week unless otherwise arranged by staff. N-THE-JOB-SUPERVISION This position will be supervised by the Guest Services Coordinator/House Manager.
