Mission Statement

The South Texas Area Agency on Aging is part of a network of 28 Area Agencies on Aging across the state of Texas working with the Texas Department on Aging. The agency serves 4 counties in the area and is a visible leader and advocate in facilitating those supportive services and opportunities that enable all older citizens to be able to live dignified, independent and productive lives.

Description

An Ombudsman is a specially trained volunteer who advocates for resident's rights and quality of care in nursing and assisted living facilities by: - Regularly visiting and observing resident life in long term care facilities. - Providing information to residents and families about rights and procedures, and identifying additional resources in or on behalf of Long Term Care Residents, by working with staff, family, friends and residents.
