Mission Statement

The VCU AmeriCorps and America Reads programs are the foundation of a comprehensive effort in the City of Richmond, Va. and the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico (ARCH), designed to ensure that every child in the Richmond region read well and independently by the end of the third grade. It is a partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), area community based organizations, and the local business sector; all of whom have committed themselves to making an impact on the alarming statistics surrounding illiteracy in Richmond area communities, characterized by high unemployment, and low school achievement and graduation rates.

Description

Volunteers are needed to assist as reading coaches in area schools and youth centers, tutoring children in grades K-5, and to assist as positive mentors in the lives of the children whom we serve.
