Mission Statement

Our ongoing mission is to provide quality of life services to persons living with HIV and AIDS on Cape Cod, while working to disseminate health education, prevention, and harm reduction information to Barnstable County. ASGCC services and outreach are consumer driven and family centered, however family is defined.

Description

While Provincetown has one of the highest rates of HIV infection per capita in Massachusetts, the epidemic is increasingly affecting communities throughout Cape Cod. ASGCC pledges to meet this challenge by linking people living with HIV and AIDS on Cape Cod, as well as others who are at high risk for HIV infection, to the circle of social and healthcare services created by many collaborating Cape-based agencies. We supply direct and supportive services, as well as advocacy services for our consumers and prevention/education for all those at-risk of HIV infection on the Cape. We are often the first point of entry into the circle of care and connect our consumers, via referral, to HIV Counseling & Testing Services, primary care medical services, mental health support services, substance abuse services, oral health services and specialty care services. The ASGCC was born 20 years ago as the Provincetown AIDS Support Group(PASG). Then, as now, the grass-roots organization responded to the needs of people living with HIV and dying from AIDS on Cape Cod. Incorporated in 1985, PASG continued to grow, filling a vital role in providing much needed services to people living with HIV and AIDS. In 2002, PASG merged with two other AIDS Service Organizations on the Cape - Cape AIDS Resource Exchange Services/CARES and the Upper Cape AIDS Network/UCAN - due to funding cuts that threatened the existence of these two agencies. Our new operating name -The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod (or ASGCC) reflects the expansion of our mission to cover all people living with HIV and AIDS on Cape Cod through our two offices in Provincetown and Hyannis.
