Training youths and school kids on sustainable entrepreneurship

The aim of this program is to provide students and ex-students with entrepreneurship skills which will help them to start their own projects after completion of studies. Volunteers will participate in the training seminars organized by ACRO. The training involves cultural art drawing, wine, liquid soap and batik making Volunteers will use the knowledge gained to teach students after training.

Beautify the city through painting with school kids

We are involving local artists with our school kids to beautify our city by painting nice artistic portrays in some visible locations where people will see and learn from the message on the picture. These pictures mostly focus on reminding people on the importance of keeping the cities clean and get rid of global warming. This activity is a weekly program in which 10 to 20 kids and local artists together with volunteers participate in painting in chosen streets. We invite both local and international volunteers to join us in this tremendous job.

Planting trees with school kids

ACRO invites volunteers from any part of the world to come and join us yearly in our community development initiatives to break life cycle of poverty. We prefer volunteers who will work with us on short term basis like 1 month to three months only. Your experience is part of our experience. We have programmes such as school greening in which we are engaged in tree planting with school children in school compounds and in other community places. In addition, we also have greenhouse project for supporting widows in rural areas. This project involves training and demonstration actions to widows on how practice organic agriculture in greenhouses. Finally, we are also promoting acquaculture to community groups aiming at improving household living stadards through income gain.

Plastic waste collection and eco bricks making

Both local and international volunteers will take part in plastic wastes collection in selected urban and rural areas in Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania. This is one of the most amazing activities this year because we will add local dances in some places for environmental protection sensitization to the community.We will have 8 hours of working with several breaks for coffee and lunch. Apart from physical work there will be training sessions to educate the locals on global warming and other environmental conservation topics. We will work from Monday to Friday and not working on Saturdays and Sundays. Arrangement will be made during the week ends to go out for tour trips to the nearby tour sites like waterfalls and cultural sites and having a lot of fun.

Participating on green house construction with widows and early mothers

The project involves construction of greenhouses for small scale organic farming for marginalized widows and early mothers. It is a participatory project which aims to improving their livelihoods. During the execution of the project volunteers will participate in the installation of greenhouse structures and help the target group to practice the technology, teaching entrepreneurship skills and marketing or their organic produce. The project will enable skills and knowledge transfer to kids of the target group during the implementation process to ensure sustainability and commitment of the project.

Description

Africana Community Rehabilitation Organization (ACRO) is a non profit organization which is based in Tanzania. It was founded in 2007 with the aim of improving the lives of community people through the knowledge and skills gained from our various programmes established by ACRO.

ACRO works in the area of environmental conservation and aquaculture promotion to community people.

Projects which are run at present include nutritional support to orphans and vulnerable children through integrated fish farming, women group fish farming, compost teaching to primary school children and ecological training to primary school kids.
