Mission Statement
Stavros Center for Independent Living, Inc. shall serve as an advocate for the personal and collective rights of disabled persons, including, but not limited to equal opportunity in the areas of housing, transportation, accessibility, education, employment, recreation, and self-development. It shall further strive to identify and promote creative and effective resource alternatives needed by disabled persons being served by other agencies and groups.
Description
The third oldest independent living center in the country, Stavros is committed to independence and equal participation for all persons with disabilities who live in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts. To accomplish these goals, we offer peer counseling, skills training, and advocacy to individuals who want to be able to make their own choices, as well as technical assistance in attaining accessibility for groups, communities, businesses, and institutions. We also have a long record of building new programs to reflect the needs of the people we serve, such as a personal care program where persons with disabilities are the employers, equipment loans and recycling, home modifications, and free telecommunications equipment.
