To coordinate and conduct in association with the United States Golf Association the first national golf championship to he held in Utah.

Description

The 87th United States Amateur Public Links Championship will be held at the Soldier Hollow Golf Course at Wasatch Mountain State Park in Midway, Utah in July 9 through July 14, 2012. This championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association and is the first national golf championship to he held in Utah.

The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship has a storied history dating back to 1922, and has been an unqualified success since inception. The championship is open to golfers who are bona fide public course players and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.4.

In addition to all recognition that goes with being a USGA national champion, the champion receives a gold medal, custody of the James D. Standish Cup for one year, an exemption, if still an amateur, from qualifying for the next 10 Public Links Championships, an exemption from local qualifying for the next three U.S. Open Championships, an exemption from sectional qualifying for the next U.S. Amateur Championship and, if still an amateur, an invitation to compete in the next Masters Championship.
