Mission Statement

Mission Statement:

MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO promotes access to film and video as tools for community self-expression and social change and supports the professional development of media artists.

Vision Statement:

MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO endorses the inclusion of underrepresented communities in the media arts field and the portrayal of accurate images of these communities by mainstream media and promotes community access to and use of media technology.

Description

MACSD has been changing lives through film and technology for the past 19 years.

Some of the key programs and services of Media Arts Center San Diego include:

Youth Media

Teen Producers Project : is a media literacy and video production program geared for youth from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds living in the San Diego/Tijuana border region. Teen Producers Project provides youth access to much-needed equipment and resources for the production and exhibition of film, video, audio and digital projects.

Youth Media & Tech Camps: Week long camps teaching youth (ages 9-14) animation, video, & blogging. Camps take place Fall, Winter, Spring, & Summer.


Exhibition

Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival: For eighteen years, this festival celebrates films and videos by Latinos and/or about the Latino experience. Each year approximately 100 film and video makers visit the festival, over 18,000 locals attend and over 130 works are screened from across Latin America and throughout the United States.

Monthly Cinema en tu Idioma Series: Each month MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO presents a one-week run of a hit Spanish-language film from Latin America and Spain. 2006 films have included 7 Dias, La Luna de Avellaneda, Viva Cuba, Lower City, Al Otro Lado, Te Doy Mis Ojos, and many other popular features.

Adult Digital Media Workshops & Media Maker Resources

Film/Video Workshops :MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO offers weekly educational workshops and seminars on various facets of media arts production at the organization's new "Digital Gym".

Fiscal Sponsorship Program: Provides independent media artists opportunities for fiscal sponsorship, fund-raising events, resource library, and general consultation regarding grant-writing
