The Family Advocacy Center of Northern Minnesota's mission is to ensure access to comprehensive, culturally sensitive care for survivors/victims of child abuse, sexual abuse/assault, and intimate partner or family violence in northern Minnesota.
The Family Advocacy Center of Northern Minnesota (FACNM) serves all people in a 17-county region in Northwest Minnesota. FACNM is a medical-model family advocacy center serving the needs of child sexual and physical abuse, adult sexual assault, and domestic violence victims. FACNM is comprised of three programs: (1)Children's Advocacy Center; (2) Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program; (3) Family Violence Intervention Program.
The Children's Advocacy Center is a child-focused, facility-based program in which representatives from many disciplines - law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical, and victim advocacy - work together conducting forensic interviews and making team decisions about the investigation, treatment, management and prosecution of child abuse cases. We provide coordinated child-friendly interviewing, medical exam, information/referrals, advocacy, crisis intervention, education, and community presentations and awareness.
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program supports community efforts, 24 hours per day, to address the crime of sexual assault by establishing a process for evidence collection and support for sexual assault survivors. Our primary function is to proivde objective forensic evaluation of child and adult victims of sexual assault. We provide a SANE examination, forensic photography, referrals, emergency contraception, STI prophylactic treatment, expert witness, and education presentations.
The Family Violence Intervention Program is designed to put an end to the debilitating effect of the cycle of violence in families by increasing self-esteem and empowering individuals to become self-sufficient and maintain independence in a violence-free lifestyle. We provide photgraphic and medical report documention, information and referrals, advocacy/crisis intervention, and community presentations and awareness.
