Mission Statement
Citizens Housing Corporation (CHC) is a non-profit, public benefit corporation established in 1992 in response to the severe shortage of affordable housing across California, and particularly in the Bay Area. CHC à ¢à  à  s mission is two-fold: à  à · To increase and preserve the stock of housing available to low-income households in California through the development of affordable rental and homeownership projects. à  à · To improve economic and social welfare of low-income residents of CHC developments and the surrounding community by developing new models of affordable housing in partnership with social service, economic development, and community-based organizations.
Description
CHC develops affordable housing throughout California. These homes are affordable to a diverse population of low-income seniors and families, with over 90% affordable to families earning between $12,000 and $30,000 per year. While the need for affordable homes in California is great, simply increasing production is not enough. CHC creates supportive housing that goes beyond traditional shelter to meet the needs and confront the issues confining people into poverty. CHC created Power Up! Economic Development Corporation as a separate, but affiliated, service provider to implement programs and services for our residents. Power Up! links services to our residential properties and facilitates programs that meet the specific needs of our residents by providing computer learning centers, coordinating expanded educational and vocational programs and a variety of health services.
