25% of the students in San Francisco's public schools are English Language Learners. Over 30% of San Francisco's public school students are of Hispanic origin. There is a huge demand for Spanish bilingual tutors! We only ask for a one-hour a week commitment but that one hour a week will make a huge difference to the child or teacher with whom you are working. Select the school, grade level and subject matter area you'd enjoy most but, if you don't have a strong preference, the most critical need is to help students with their reading and writing skills. No prior tutoring or teaching experience is needed. Your consistent presence and faith in them will make a difference to the student you work with--guaranteed!! Learning to understand our emotions and how to manage them with skill is one of the most important lessons any human being can learn. The San Francisco Education Fund is seeking volunteers with a consistent Mindfulness practice to lead 30-minute Mindfulness sessions once a week in public school classrooms in San Francisco. Volunteers will teach focusing techniques to elementary school students, based on the Mindful Arts in the Classroom curriculum, to help them cultivate the skill of present-moment awareness. Every student needs someone who believes in them, who acts as a cheerleader and says, "You can do this!". Schools in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), are requesting volunteers in every subject and at every grade level. Spend one hour, once a week, sharing your skills with a public school student. Read with an elementary school student or practice math with a middle schooler, encourage the arts or emphasize STEM--anything! San Francisco public school students are still recovering from the pandemic. Teachers need people who can help inspire and empower students. Volunteer with an SFUSD school for the current school year and help students resume their path to academic success! Our first volunteer training of the year will be August 23, 2022 from 5:30-7:30pm via Zoom. We will have four more trainings after that.
