Mission Statement

Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. is dedicated to the elimination of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy to ensure a meaningful quality of life for families and individuals within the Philadelphia community.

Description

The Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) was founded in 1964 by the late Reverend Doctor Leon H. Sullivan is the landmark prototype for the national and international OIC organizational
model that has addressed the education and workforce development needs of more than 3 million low-income persons worldwide and 85,000 in Philadelphia.
Under the philosophical banner of "Helping People Help Themselves", POIC has been moving people from welfare to work and from tax dependents to taxpayers. Annually, Philadelphia OIC provides programs for the mentally challenged, chronically unemployed, underemployed, and welfare recipients. In addition, youth literacy is addressed in our out of school time program (OST) for students at the Henry A. Brown Elementary School
in grades K-6.
