Bayview Opera House, Inc. (BVOH) is a 501 (c)(3) organization operating a neighborhood arts center under the auspices of the San Francisco Arts Commission's Community Arts & Education Program. BVOH seeks to address a variety of cultural, social and educational needs by means of performing and visual arts programs targeting residents of Bayview Hunters Point, an ethnically diverse, predominantly African-American community in the southeast section of the city. Programs are offered in our historic facility, Bayview Opera House (the city's oldest performing arts theater, built in 1884), and in various locations throughout the neighborhood, such as schools and other commBayview Opera House (BVOH) is seeking financial and in-kind support to sustain and build upon the continuing implementation of The Childrenà ¢à ?à ?s Mural Program (CMP), an environmental education program to serve four Bayview-Hunters Point elementary schools, for 2003. The program uses instruction in visual art techniques as the basis of a curriculum to explore various environmental issues of concern to the community, especially the Superfund clean-up and reuse of Hunters Point Shipyard. Our program has been developed and expanded over the past ten years. In 2003 The Childrenà ¢à ?à ?s Mural Program will be commencing its eleventh successful year, having served more than 4,000 community children. The program was begun in 1992 in a single school, has been presented, with ongoing support of The Mural Resource Center at four community elementary schools for eight years. In 2001 the scope of the CMP doubled with the inclusion of The Bayview Opera House Environmental Education Program, BEEP! serving annually, with CMP approximately 700 children.
