To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County was founded in 1946 in response to community need. Incorporated in 1967, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County has been the safe and positive place for youth to learn and grow as individuals, citizens and our future leaders. Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County now serves over 5,400 members at six sites in the following area locations: Bellingham, Blaine, Ferndale, Lummi Island, Lynden, as well as the Northwest Sports Complex.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County is recognized nationally for its commitment to excellence in youth development, having received numerous awards in the areas of technology, the arts, photography and fitness. Core program areas include Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, Sports, Fitness and Recreation and The Arts. Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County is the "great equalizer." Here at the Club all kids are equal. They all participate in the same games, eat snack together and have access to the latest technology and programs.
Whatcom County is comprised of rural and border communities each with varying needs and demographics. Our Clubs are strategically located in areas of the highest needs, with predominantly low-income households, higher crimes and the accompanying drug culture. Each of our Branch locations serves various minority and at-risk populations. Over 60% of our Club youth come from low-income homes and 54% come from single-parent homes.
