Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County builds simple, decent houses in partnership with people in need. We are a Christian housing ministry partnering with people of all faiths or no faith to build lives on the foundation of homeownership and make shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Description
Habitat offers people who cannot afford homes a hand up rather than a handout. Community volunteers help neighbors in need build a house. Habitat homeowners pay back the cost of their housing materials through a no-interest or very low interest mortgage that typically lasts 20 to 30 years. Donations from the public and earnings from our second-hand furniture store cover the cost of land, roads, utilities and other overhead. Neither religion nor race is a factor in choosing the families who receive Habitat houses.
