Description

For sometimes, Portege Youth Development Initiative (PYDI) was known as the Philippine Youth Development Initiative until May 2002. It was founded in 1996 by four young peoples. The vision was borne out from the need to to do something for the community. In their individual experiences, they saw the problems of the youth involvement in community affairs. If there existed some kind of participation, these were purely superficial ones. The overarching principle is global solutions, local actions. Young people can make a lasting contribution in solving world problems even in their own backyards. PYDI was envisioned to be a community of young people dedicated to helping each other effect social change. We tap and work with young peoples in the hope that they will continue to share their wisdom, energy and experiences with each other. The problems may range from environmental degradation, state-ethnic conflicts, diseases and malnutrition, drugs and substance abuses, among others. Young people -- whether outstanding leaders and ordinary ones, regardless of religious affiliation - can be part of PYDI's voluntary opportunity programs. So the group thought it would be suitable to form an informal organization. Not until on 1998 when PYDI formalized this group with its registration to the National Youth Commission. It is this sense of community that lies at the heart of PYDI
