Mission Statement

The mission of the AMD3 Foundation is to promote education, research and other related charitable activities in patient and family centered care. The Foundation was officially established in 2003 as a non-profit organization.

Description

The AMD3 Foundation has several programs that promote education in the medical community including the Patient and Family Centered Care VisionQuest Series as well as the Bone and Joint Health Series.

Another major initiative of the AMD3 Foundation is Operation Walk Pittsburgh. Operation Walk is a private, non-profit, volunteer medical service organization that provides free hip and knee replacements for patients in developing countries (and in the US) that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis. Founded in 1994 by Los Angeles orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Lawrence Dorr, Operation Walk has visited over 12 different countries and operated on thousands of patients. The Operation Walk organization includes nine teams in the US and one in Canada.

Operation Walk Pittsburgh, headed by Dr. Tony DiGioia, was started in 2008 and has since completed many successful efforts in Central America and in Pittsburgh, providing life changing surgeries to those in need both home and away. While on location, the Operation Walk team educates in-country orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and other health care professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques. This is done in conjunction with surgeries to help create a lasting contribution to patients and their care in developing countries.
