Description
CNCA is a school deeply committed to students from economically challenged backgrounds and families that have been underserved by the public education system. CNCA currently has 1113 students enrolled in its Elementary and Middle schools with an ethnic population of 3% Asian American, 6% African American, 88% Hispanic or Latino, 2% Filipino and less than 1% each of all other ethnicities. Eighty-seven (87%) are English Language Learners (ELL) and 94% receive free/reduced price meals. The poverty rate for households within the community that CNCA serves is 34.6% versus a rate of 18.8% citywide. As a result of representing a predominantly impoverished and immigrant population, who are drastically underserved, the academic achievement barriers CNCA faces are significant.
