Mission Statement

Jewish InterAction merged with GesherCity Boston in 2006. Please see our updated profile and webpage (www.geshercity.org) for events and to volunteer. We provide an avenue for people in their 20s and early 30s to get involved in the Jewish community. We offer diverse programming in social justice, Jewish learning, personal enrichment, and recreation. Jewish InterAction is co-sponsored by three agencies--JCCs of Greater Boston, Hebrew College, and the Jewish Community Relations Council. We are funded by a generous grant from Combined Jewish Philanthropies; we also receive support from the George and Beatrice Sherman Family Foundation.

Description

Jewish InterAction merged with GesherCity Boston in 2006. Please seeour updated profile and webpage (www.geshercity.org) for events and tovolunteer. As part of the Jewish Community Relations Council's Social Justice agenda, Jewish InterActionà ¢??s Social Justice Team recruits and engages Bostonà ¢??s Jewish young adults in advancing a just society by creating and implementing service, educational, and advocacy programs. These programs raise awareness about identified community needs, respond to those needs and build partnerships for effective action. The Social Justice Teamà ¢??s activities include long-term volunteer and community building projects with area partner agencies, à ¢??one shotà ¢?? volunteer opportunities, educational and advocacy programming, interfaith dialogue, and international social justice work. Examples of volunteer projects include tutoring high school students in Dorchester, assisting residents of the Dudley Street neighborhood file their tax returns, investigating claims of housing discrimination, planning and implementing activities with children in homeless shelters, and spending time with an adult with a disability, and area fix-it-ups.
