Description
Mentoring Afterschool Program for Success (MAPS) connects youth with caring, role models in a small group atmosphere, while building a community of caring families that support each other. MAPS does this by offering age appropriate afterschool activities once per week and facilitating fun family strengthening activities once per month for all MAPS families, staff, mentors and signigicant people in the lives of all. Children work together with mentors to set goals and plan program activities and projects. This combination of youth development and family engagement strengthens children, families and communities.
MAPS consists of two main components: Afterschool mentoring and family strengthening. We recruit volunteer mentors ages 15 and up to spend one hour per week with a child planning and participating in fun and educational activities. MAPS staff facilitate family strengthening activities and connect families with available resources in the community.
