Mission Statement

Jamal Place provides superior residential care to wards of the state and serves as a source of support for community children and young adults. Through a unique capacity to function as an extended family and through the provision of a comprehensive array of services and opportunities, we address the needs of the youth we serve and enhance their individual talents. Jamal Place equips children and young adults with the necessary skills to thrive in their homes, schools and communities as responsible and contributing citizens.

Description

Jamal Place provides a home to 22 boys and young men who are wards of the state of Illinois. The group home program provides a wide array of therapeutic services to 10 boys between the ages of 11 and 18. Our transitional living program provides 12 young men the opportunity to gain the skills they will need to function as independent and contributing adults. This program serves young men between the ages of 16-21. Jamal Place is located in the North Lawndale community of Chicago. The two programs are maintained in two separate locations that are separated by two miles. We have developed a family model, since most of our kids have failed in traditional foster homes. We work very hard to help the boys learn how to trust adults and develop appropriate, nurturing relationships with people.
