Description

Organizational Background

GLAD Family Lifestyle Personal Care is a start-up 501c3 non-profit developed to meet a critical need in our community and designed to create a model of independent living and support for people with disabilities.

The organization was founded in 2010 to create a family cooperative living environment that engages individuals in the living experience through shared responsibilities, expectations and positive reinforcement, to promote more independences and self-sufficiency.

Our commitment and passion is to provide a wholesome family home-style living environment for adults with disabilities, attributable to mental and/or physical impairments, who do not require nursing care but who do need supervision, with self-care activities and daily tasks

We will provide a home for up to 8 individuals. These individuals will access:

  • Training on basic living skills (self-care, laundry, cleaning, food choices and meal preparation)
  • Training on advanced living skills (money management and bills, grocery and clothes shopping, cooking, use of public transportation, etc.)
  • Nourishing meals and activity
  • Transportation
  • Community outings (movies, dinner, shopping, etc.)

GLAD is in the process of raising funds to acquire a suitable home and obtaining licensing, additional and trained staff. To reach our goal, we intend to hold several fundraisers in the coming months. We expect to be in full operation by mid January 2012, in Chester County PA
