Mission Statement

"Seeking to put God's live into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope."

Description

Habitat for Humanity (HFHI) was founded in 1979 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Churches, community groups, and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem - decent housing for all. Since its founding, Habitat for Humanity International has built over 500,000 houses worldwide and a new Habitat home is completed every 21 minutes .

The Genesee County affiliate has been active since 1999. We are currently working on our 11th home, located at 11 Harvester Avenue in the City of Batavia. We have built new homes and rehabs in Pavilion, Alexander, and Batavia. Just like all the other Habitat affiliates around the world, we in Genesee County thrive on the dedication and support of our volunteers.

As CEO of this org,I feel I need to add a comment(we are new to this site & it seems unfair to have us reviewed by 1 & be represented with 1 star when we work hard to have this be a productive & welcoming place to volunteer). We are dedicated to eliminating poverty housing & homelessness.Everything we do is with that mission in mind. In our effort to be the very best stewards of donor money that we possibly can be, we try to run our sites on as few paid staff members as possible. This allows us to put our donor$to work buying materials to construct the homes we dedicate ourselves to.It seems that in the context of the last review, that lean staff model served to make a volunteer feel that her time would be unappreciated. While I am truly sorry that she felt this way,I can promise that the family that benefits from that home APPRECIATES YOU.The staff members you are working alongside APPRECIATE YOU.The neighbors of the home you're improving APPRECIATE YOU. We are grateful to all our vols!

This group was very unorganized. I was not introduced to anyone when I arrived. Also, people were not very friendly. There were moments where volunteers were standing around with nothing to do and some who opted to watch others work and not help. Over half the group left for a trip to Home Depot after two hours and left three people cleaning new siding that had not been properly covered from the weather. I left after two hours, realizing my time would not be appreciated. I will not be volunteering again with this organization.
