Mission Statement

We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever. May all who leave here know the impact of violence. May this Memorial offer comfort, strength, peace, hope and serentiy.

Description

The Memorial honors the victims, survivors, rescuers and all who were changed forever on April 19, 1995. It encompases the now-sacred soil where the Murrah Federal Building once stood, capturing and preserving forever the place and events that changed the world.

The Memorial consists of a 3.3 acre Outdoor Symbolic Memorial and interactive learning Museum that takes the visitor on a chronological, self-guided tour through the story of April 19, 1995, and the days, weeks and years that followed the bombing of Oklahoma City's Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

The Memorial is an accredited member of the American Association of Museums (AAM) and the Oklahoma Museums Association (OMA).

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a private non-profit organization, and does not receive any annual operating funds from the federal, state or local government. Museum admissions, store sales, the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, earnings from an endowment and private fundraising allow the Memorial and Museum to be self-sustaining.

The Oklahoma City Memorial and Museum is an amazing opportunity for anyone. I am from Oklahoma City and remember April 19, 1995. I am able to answer questions for guests and help them understand that the museum is to remember those lost and educate future generations. The staff at the memorial is extremely friendly and the Director of Operations, Joanne Riley, is an amazing person that always makes you feel welcome and appreciated. I volunteer four hours per week, typically Saturday or Sunday depending on the needs of the museum.

We meet people from around the world and across town in the Museum. We share the story of hope that came from this tragedy. Guests will share stories with us & how their visit will impact them long after they leave. Service to the Memorial may include assisting in Archives as we preserve and protect artifacts related to the bombing. If you volunteer here, you will be "Changed Forever".

This memorial not only honors those impacted by April 19, 1995, but also educates visitors. The museum is maintained at the very highest standards and the staff is well trained and knowledgable. Volunteers are made to feel very important. I consider it an honor to be affiliated with this organization.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum is a special place that teaches the world about overcoming violence through the fearless courage of its citizens. I volunteered here from 2003-2007 and it was a great experience! I met people from all over the world, and had a meaningful impact in educating them. I would highly recommend volunteering at the Memorial Museum to anyone who is interested in helping others.
