Mission Statement

The mission of the Truckee Trails Foundation is to champion a network of trails and bikeways in the Truckee area for community, economic, and environmental well being.

Description

Formed in April of 2002 in direct response to the Town of Truckee’s Trails & Bikeways Master Plan, the Truckee Trails Foundation (TTF) is charged with overseeing, promoting, maintaining, and fundraising for a comprehensive and connected local trails and bikeways system. As a well-respected, active advocate for an interconnected system of trails in our community, we have raised over $70,000 in funds so far for two critical trails in town, while advocating for safe, connected trails in proposed housing developments and US Forest Service property. With over 130 volunteers and over 500 volunteer hours so far, over the past two summers we worked with the Truckee Donner Land Trust (a program we call GoodDirtyFun) to hold trail building and maintenance days throughout the trail season, helping to ensure our current trails remain in safe, sustainable condition, while also adding new dirt trails to our system. We lobby for a safer environment for our local children, and hold free bike repair days for underprivileged youth and families while also assisting local schools with safe pedestrian and bicycling curriculums. We serve a membership base of over 535 trails supporters, and a significantly greater number of local and visiting trail users. We also provide benefits to those who don’t use trails - fewer cars on the road, decreased air pollution, and a healthier community overall.
