Mission Statement

The mission of the MSU Extension Wayne County 4-H Mentoring Program is to provide one to one mentoring to the at-risk youth of Wayne County. The program seeks to address the needs of participating youth by reducing the school drop-out rates, improving academic performance, and reducing delinquency. The Wayne County 4-H Mentoring Program encourages youth to develop higher expectations for themselves by fostering healthy relationships with adults, family members, and peers who recognize and support participants' goals.

Description

The Wayne County 4-H Mentoring Program was established in 2006 through a collaboration between the Wayne County Department of Children & Family Services and Michigan State University Extension. Since its inception the Wayne County 4-H Mentoring Program has served more than 200 youth through one to one mentoring relationships, workshops, and activities. The Wayne County 4-H Mentoring Program is open to all students in Wayne County between the ages of 10 and 17.
