Description

Head Start is a multicultural community based early childhood program, providing high quality services for income eligible families and children to meet all aspects of their growth and development. Community Development includes of a host of services that offer assistance to all community members. These services range from food banks, housing referrals to employment services. Job Opportunity for Low-Income Program (JOLI) is comprised of a training center where qualifying residents aquire the knowledge and skills in their quest for gainful employment. Child Development Center is a high quality, all-inclusive program for children. Programs: Community Development Computer Training These classes enable low and moderate-income persons to obtain employment requiring computer and word processing skills or to improve the terms of employment in positions already held. Senior and Disabled Adult Transportation Transportation is provided to senior and disabled adults in Arlington County to nutrition sites healthcare providers, and shopping. Fatherhood This program enhances the relationships between fathers and their children who participate in the Head Start and Project Discovery Programs. Cloth Diaper Program Training is provided for parents on the use of cloth diapers emphasizing the economics and ecologics of using them. Food Bank The food bank maintains non-perishable and some perishable foods for families in crisis situations. Housing Referrals Referrals are provided to obtain temporary housing, rental and home repairs. Rental and Utility Assistance This is a referral service for emergencies only. Assistance is provided to Arlington residents only in need of housing, rental and utility assistance via referrals to various community organizations. Employment Services A job announcement board is provided at three ACAP centers. Resume and job search skills are provided. Limited Immigration Services Information and referrals are available for various immigration needs (visas, obtaining a Social Security card, and permanent residency). Project Discovery Middle school program curriculum works with at-risk youth to develop the social and study skills necessary for them to succeed in High School. High School curriculum covers a college preparation curriculum and college visits.
