The mission of Project HERO is to increase student academic achievement of 2nd graders in Charleston County School District's Innovation Zone through literacy interventions and tutoring.

Description

Project H.E.R.O. (Helping Enrich Reading Opportunities) is a tutoring initiative of Charleston County School District and AmeriCorps State. AmeriCorps Members will be stationed at one of nine Innovation Zone elementary schools where they will spend 20 hours per week helping second graders read on grade level, assisting the school with capacity building and leading a literacy camp in June. AmeriCorps Members will receive a modest living allowance and an Education Award upon completing the service term.
