Mission Statement

The Federal Bureau of Prisons protects society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure and provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens.

Description

The Federal Prison Camp in Alderson was opened in 1927 with the official dedication in 1928 as the Federal Industrial Institution for Women. It was the first institution built to house women offenders. The prison houses minimum security inmates from all areas of the United States and other parts of the World.
