Description

Mercury is a chamber orchestra that presents dynamic and accessible performances on period instruments. Mercury’s Downtown Series features the larger Mercury ensemble and includes performances with renowned early music guests such as Harry Bicket and Susan Graham. Its Neighborhood Series brings intimate, seventy-minute performances to Houston’s Museum District, Memorial, The Woodlands and Midtown.

Mercury’s educational programs have connected more than 10,000 children to music over the past five years. In 2014, its partnership with YES Prep schools won the prestigious Yale Distinguished Music Education Partnership award. Mercury also performs at Houston ISD schools in innovative, cross-curricular, bilingual music workshops. Both programs are designed to engage young minds musically and critically, develop life skills, and feature opportunities for key interaction with Mercury’s musicians.

The orchestra has grown to be one of the leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit orchestras in Texas: both in the standard of its performances, the number and diversity of audiences reached, and the impact its education program has on the lives of thousands of young Houstonians. Mercury continues to create deeper cultural connections within the extended Houston community, reaching out to new audiences with expanded repertoire and programs.
