Mission Statement
Mission Statement: Assist lower income families and individuals to obtain and keep safe, affordable housing, offer supportive services to nurture their independence, and advocate for greater opportunity.
Vision: Continue as an innovative, responsive grassroots organization committed to creatively helping those with the least resources increase access, raise hope, and build self-esteem.
Description
Started in 1988, in response to a housing crisis and a United Way community needs study, a Low Income Housing Network created a security deposit loan program to help low income families compete for decent housing.
The Way Home provides wraparound services for those homeless or at risk of homelessness through its Housing Resource Center at 214 Spruce St. in Manchester, NH and the Manchester Continuum of Care's Homeless Services Center.
The Way Home Services include:
- Security Deposit Loans - Since 1988 The Way Home's Housing Assistance Fund has secured more than 4,500 units with guarantees totaling over $2 million.
- Steps To Success coaching and skills training - Group activities (e.g. money management training, cooking classes, and community garden) help homeless and at-risk individuals to improve skills in a supportive community.
- Community Advocacy- Represent low-income concerns at the Public Utilities Commission & NH Senate, preserving the NH Electric Assistance Program, which reduces costs for 35,000 low-income households.
- Healthy Home Services - Promoted healthy housing in partnership with the Manchester Lead/Rehab program & Health Dept through lead-safe renovation of older housing units, landlord/tenant education, and supportive services for at-risk families.
