Description

A PLUS Youth Program (Academic Preparation-Leadership-Unity-Sports) provides inner city youth with the opportunity to combine educational development and competitive basketball. The A+ program works with boys in the 4 th through 10 th grades and with girls in the 7th grade. Upon entering the program each member is tested to identify academic strengths and weaknesses. After each member is evaluated, a lesson plan focusing on homework support and skill development is designed and members are matched with tutors to meet their educational needs. Based on each member's personal academic assessment, a minimum GPA will be required to continue in the program. Members participate in fall, winter, spring and summer leagues, as well as multiple tournaments throughout the year. Members also have the opportunity to travel to compete against the best regional and national basketball competition. In addition to promoting basketball skills, the program emphasizes teamwork and good citizenship.
