Description

Kinoshita is a Title One (low income) public school. Our student population is primarily new immigrant and first generation Americans.

Our K-5 school buildings are modern and up-to-date and our teachers are enthusiastic and experienced. Volunteers help us provide one-on-one or small group attention to our young scholars.

The coordinator Gila is very responsive and easy to work with. The teachers, staff and students are so sweet. So far I love volunteering at this school and look forward to continuing here for awhile.

I have been volunteering at Kinosita for about 3 years and find it amazingly rewarding. When you walk into class and are literally mobbed by kids screaming your name and smothering you with hugs, it's hard not to feel kind of like a rock star. I have worked with 2nd and 3rd graders for the past few years and this year, kindergarden and 3rd grade. It is gratifying to see the difference you can make with the kids and to watch them mature. I work two hours, one morning a week and feel like I get way more out of it than the kids do. If you have any time to spare and can help, I think you will also find it to be one of the highlights of your week. If you really want to make a difference and help kids in San Juan, I don't think there is a better place to volunteer than Kinoshita.
