Description

The JEANIUS Foundation, founded in 1998 by several concerned educators, is a non-profit community based organization dedicated to the educational needs of children both locally and nationally. The mission of the JEANIUS Foundation is to revise the approach of teaching math, science, and computer science to children. The communities that JEANIUS Foundation currently serves are the Near North Side (Lincoln Park) and West Garfield Park. This program is very important because as a nation, America has been disastrously backward in both math and science. Reports continue to show that the U.S. ranks 23 out of 40 countries in math proficiency. When analyzed, it was determined that these results were in fact due to the teaching of deficient curriculum. This deficiency is due largely to our educational system believing and therefore teaching that children will grasp and understand abstract concepts from concrete experiences and examples. ?
