Mission Statement

uided by a board composed primarily of grassroots leaders, Community Toolbox for Children's Environmental Health seeks to build the organizational capacity and sustainability of parent and other community-based organizations working to eliminate children's environmental health threats, such as lead poisoning, in communities at highest risk.

Description

Founded in 1997, Community Toolbox for Children's Environmental Health works to strengthen the stability and sustainability of small and emerging, parent and community-based groups that provide the educational, organizing and support services needed to protect children in those areas of the United States that are most disproportionately impacted by preventable environmental health threats. Community Toolbox addresses the needs of these groups by providing small grants in conjunction with organizational training and technical assistance to build organizational capacity and effectiveness. Community Toolbox provides the organizational development "tools" that community-based groups need to increase their strength and effectiveness as they work to protect children from environmental health hazards. The Tides Center of San Francisco, California, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, acts as fiscal sponsor for Community Toolbox for Children's Environmental Health.
