To Eliminate Homelessness among Veterans In Central Florida
NVHS was formed by veterans for the sole purpose of locating and assisting the estimated 4,500 homeless veterans living in the parks, forests, and streets of Central Florida. We are a relatively small organization, but have seen exponential growth in our 5 years of operation because of our dedication to our mission: "To Eliminate Homelessness Among Veterans in Central Florida"
We currently manage 3 programs to support the homeless veterans: Search and Rescue, Stand Down, and Transitional Housing.
Search and Rescue - Primary program of NVHS, we search for homeless veterans in the forests and parks, provide outdoor gear and food once we find them in order to alleviate the burdens of homeless life, and help with housing, benefits, and employment to get them out of the woods and back on their feet again.
Stand Down - 1 day event that provides free hot meals, medical/dental care, legal services, showers, haircuts, access to dozens of service providers, benefits processing, etc... for an average of 200 homeless vets annually
Transitional Housing - Newly formed program, transitional and emergency housing program capable of housing up to 16 homeless veterans at any given point in time
Volunteers are needed and we welcome all the help we can receive. Come join an organization that is changing lives everyday!
Working with NVHS since the fall of 2008, I am currently the Development Director. We're an organization made up of wonderful and dedicated volunteers, who enjoy making a difference in the lives of veterans who need assistance. The leaders in this organization are true humanitarians and provide groundwork and opportunity for volunteers to grow and join us utilizing their best talents. Working with NVHS makes life altering differences to veterans who are going through hard times and homelessness. It will change you, enlighten you, and bring joy and satisfaction to you as you help our appreciative vets.

I have been volunteering as Vice President of NVHS since October 2009. I am currently in the US Air Force based out of Patrick AFB, FL and give the majority of my free time to this organization. I have volunteered a lot over the past 11 years I have been in the Air Force, and never have I ever come across an organization like this. We are very successful in going into the woods an help homeless veterans survive outdoors while trying to connect them with other social service organizations to get them housed and employed. We manage a transitional housing program that will have 16 beds available by Mid-2013 in Brevard and Orange Counties, and with that all of the executives in this organization are still volunteers!! Talk about dedication to the cause, I love this organization, the community as a whole loves this organization, and I encourage anyone to give us a chance and see that we change lives everyday... I am entirely a volunteer and I recommend this to anyone!
